Living in the present

I have read many short stories, and one of my favorite writer is Anthony De Mello's, and let me start this article with a story from Anthony De Mello called "Best Tea in Japan" :

There was a group of elderly gentlemen in Japan who would meet to exchange news and drink tea. One of their diversions was to search for costly varieties of tea and create new blends that would delight the palate.

When it was the turn of the oldest member of the group to entertain the others, he served tea with the greatest ceremony, measuring out the leaves from a golden container. Everyone had the highest praise for the tea and demanded to know by what particular combination he had arrived at this exquisite blend.

The old man smiled and said, "Gentlemen, the tea that you find so delightful is the one that is drunk by the peasants on my farm. The finest things in life are neither costly nor hard to find."

People often search for good things in life, they might travel to many places, work very hard to find it, searching it from east to west of the world, and some actually found what they are searching, some end up with disappointment.

I remember a book called 'The Alchemist" written by Paulo Coelho, correct me if i am wrong its a story about a young boy who travel to many places to find treasure and finally find it at his home. I don't really remember it since i read it long time ago. Why don't you go to bookstore and buy it. Its a good read.

In my article about emotion (Indonesian Language) i stated that a way to live happily is to live in the present. If we live in the present we are not affected by the past and agitated by the unknown or we often called the future.

As people are searching for treasure to many place, Sometime we will found the most important treasure is what we have at home, maybe our family, our friends, our work, our book, and ourselves.  I remember a very popular story about a fisherman and a businessman:

One afternoon, a very wealthy businessman came to one beach to relax. He saw one fisherman using his net to catch some fish. The fisherman is very skillful that with each throw he would get a lot of fish. Seeing this as an opportunity the businessman approached him.
Businessman -You sure have great skill there. If you want, I can loan you some money for you to start your business.
Fisherman – Really? I am not that good with business, you tell me what should I do with the money
Businessman – You could buy a boat so you will be able to catch more fish
Fisherman – Then what?
Businessman – With more fish, you can hire more people to help.
Fisherman – Then what?
Businessman – You can then afford to buy a bigger boat and employ people to work for you
Fisherman – Then what?
Businessman – (Getting annoyed) Then you can quit your job and spend more time with
your family. Isn’t that what we want in the end?

Fisherman – Why bother doing all that when I am now already spending most of my time with my family. Thank you for the offer.
Businessman – (silence)

When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.  ~Alexander Graham Bell

That's it for this time, hope you all enjoy it and sorry for my english.
